Use a zinc oxide sun-block on exposed areas when you expect to be in direct sunlight for more than 15 minutes. If you don't protect yourself from the sun, any efforts to remove age spots will be ineffective.
Using creams containing ingredients that inhibit melanin production may be your best choice, but they may lighten the surrounding area, as well.
